About Tendo
Technology that fits little hands
Every parent knows the moment. You are in the car, in a queue, or trying to cook dinner, and a small hand reaches for your phone. You hand it over because you need a few minutes of peace, and then you spend those minutes worrying about the cracked screen, the surprise purchase or the video you never meant them to see.
Tendo was made for that moment. We sell a kids’ tablet that is built for children from the first day and gives parents the controls they actually need. It is tough, simple to carry, easy to use and sensible about screen time. It arrives ready to go, with nothing extra to buy.
We are a South African business based in Pretoria, and we are proud to bring Tendo to families across the country.
Our story
Tendo started with a simple frustration that a lot of South African parents know well.
NoKhanya, the founder of Tendo, was a single parent who wanted to give her children and the kids in her family the same things she saw other children enjoying. Good toys. Good tech. Things that made their eyes light up. But the prices made it impossible. Every time she looked at a kids’ tablet, she walked away. Not because it was not worth it, but because it simply was not affordable for a parent doing it on their own.
That changed when NoKhanya discovered she could source quality children’s products at prices that actually made sense. What started as a way to give her own kids nice things quickly became something bigger, a business built for parents exactly like her. Parents who love their children just as much as anyone else, who want to give them the world, and who deserve products that do not make that feel out of reach.
That is what Tendo is. Not a luxury. Not a compromise. A proper kids’ tablet, fully kitted out, at a price that works for real families.
The problem with ordinary tablets
A normal tablet is a good piece of technology, but it is built for adults. It assumes the person using it will treat it carefully, hold it properly and know what to avoid online. Children do none of those things, and they should not have to.
Here is what usually happens when a young child gets an adult tablet:
- It gets dropped. Not once, but regularly. Sofas, car seats, kitchen tables and living room floors are all part of a toddler’s world.
- It is awkward to hold. Adult tablets are thin, smooth and slippery. Small hands struggle with them.
- It needs add-ons. A tough case, a handle and a stand are all separate purchases, and they rarely come from the same place or fit properly.
- It opens the whole internet. Without careful setup, a child is a few taps away from content that was never meant for them.
- It has no natural limit. There is nothing to tell a child when it is time to put it down, so that job falls to the parent, every single time.
A normal tablet is only half the job. Tendo does the other half.
Meet Tendo
Tendo is a 10 inch Android tablet for kids. It comes in a colourful, shockproof case made from soft silicone and EVA, with a carry handle on top and an adjustable stand on the back. It also comes with a sticker set, so your child can make it their own the moment it comes out of the box.
Everything your child needs to use it safely and happily is already included:
- A shockproof case that absorbs the bumps of everyday life
- A carry handle that makes it easy for little hands to take it from room to room
- An adjustable stand that props it up for watching, reading and playing
- Parental controls that let you decide what your child opens and for how long
- A sticker set for decorating
You do not need to buy anything else. Charge it, set it up, and hand it over.
Built for little hands
The case
The case is the first thing you notice about Tendo, and for good reason. Children drop things, and a tablet that cannot survive that is a tablet that will not last. Our case is made from soft silicone and EVA, a thick, rubbery combination that is designed to bounce rather than crack. It wraps around the whole device and protects it from the knocks and tumbles of ordinary family life.
It is also bright and cheerful. Tendo is not a dull grey slab. It looks like it belongs to a child, and children notice that.
The handle and the stand
Two simple features make a big difference. The carry handle on top lets your child hold and move the tablet comfortably, whether they are walking to the lounge, climbing into the car or heading out the door. The adjustable stand on the back lets them prop it up on a table, a bed or the floor so they can watch, read or draw without holding it at all.
That is the idea behind our tagline: carry it, prop it, play.
The screen
The 10 inch IPS screen is clear and bright, with good viewing angles, so your child can enjoy their shows, books, drawing apps and games without squinting. It is large enough to share, too, which makes it good for two children sitting side by side or a parent and child watching together.
Power and performance
Inside the case is a 6000mAh battery, which is big for a tablet of this size. It is there so that the tablet can keep going through a long afternoon of play, a car journey or a day out without you hunting for a charger.
The tablet has 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, with a quad core processor to keep everything running smoothly. That is plenty of room for your child’s favourite apps, games and downloaded videos. There is also an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera, so your child can take pictures and record little videos. Tendo runs Android, which means access to a huge range of apps and content, chosen by you.
Parental controls that actually help
We know that handing a child a tablet is a decision parents think about carefully. How long should they use it? What should they see? What happens when you are not in the room?
Tendo’s parental controls are designed to answer those questions simply:
- Child lock. Keep your child in the apps you have chosen, so they cannot wander off into settings or content they should not be in.
- Safe websites. Choose which websites your child can visit, so browsing stays within boundaries you are comfortable with.
- Time limits. Set how long the tablet can be used each day. When the time is up, the tablet tells your child, and it is the tablet that says no instead of you.
That last feature is the one many parents appreciate most. It takes the argument out of screen time. There is no negotiating with a timer.
What we stand for
Simple over complicated
Children’s products should not need a manual. We want you to be able to open the box, set up the controls and have your child playing in minutes.
Tough over fragile
Anything made for children should be built for the real world. A tablet that lasts is better for your family and better for your wallet.
Complete over incomplete
We do not believe in selling you half a product. A tablet, a case, a handle, a stand and a set of stickers all come together, because that is what a child actually needs.
Honest over exaggerated
We describe Tendo as it is, in plain words, with no small print. If you ever feel something has not been described fairly, we want to hear about it.
Every child deserves nice things
This one is personal. Tendo exists because NoKhanya believed that a child’s experience should not depend on how much their parent earns. That belief is behind every decision we make, from the price to the packaging.
Who Tendo is for
Tendo is for families who want their child to have a tablet of their own without handing over a phone or a valuable adult device. It suits:
- Single parents who want to give their kids something special without breaking the budget
- Parents of toddlers and young children who need something tough and simple
- Families who travel and want something to keep little ones occupied on long journeys
- Parents who want to set clear limits on screen time without constant arguments
- Households with more than one child, where having separate tablets means fewer fights
- Grandparents and relatives looking for a thoughtful gift that is ready to use out of the box
If you are looking for something for your child that is sturdy, easy to use and under your control, Tendo is for you.

Our promise
Tendo started because one parent decided that not being able to afford nice things for her kids was a problem worth solving. It is still driven by that same idea. Every child deserves to have something that is made for them, that works properly and that does not fall apart in a week.
We are building this business the way we would want to be treated as customers: clearly, fairly and with care. Thank you for supporting a South African small business, and for trusting us with something your child will use every day.
We hope Tendo brings some fun to your little one’s day, and some peace to yours.
